FitAWare FAQ
Additional information is available in the FitAWare Quick Reference User's Guide.
How do I wear my ActionTracker correctly?
The FitAWare system has been designed to offer the most freedom of placement of all pedometer systems. You will have received either a belt clip or lanyard style ActionTracker. They are designed to work best anywhere on the torso, wearing them anywhere else will produce less accurate results. The FitAWare ActionTracker has no moving parts. It determines your step count by analyzing the physical motion data gathered by an internal accelerometer.
I don't see any numbers. Where can I see my step count?
The FitAWare system was designed without a display on the ActionTrackers. Your step count can be seen by logging onto the website.
How do I log on to the website?
In your welcome package, you will have received a letter with the website address, your user name and a temporary password. Please refer to that letter and follow the instructions. If you do not have that letter, please send an email to support@awaretechs.com or call 617.868.5868. You will need to include your ActionTracker's label, your name and contact information.
My step count isn't on the website. Why is this?
Your step count is stored on the ActionTracker in 4-hour increments. Several times per day, the ActionTracker will attempt to upload the data to the website. In order to do this, the ActionTracker will have to be in range of a console. Your welcome letter will list where the console(s) are located within your organization. If you do not wish to wait for an automatic update, you may push the button on the ActionTracker when in range of a console to immediately transfer your data.
Why is my step count different from my other pedometer?
There are many styles of pedometers and step counting devices on the market. They include lever based, 2-D accelerometer and 3-D accelerometer. The results from each will vary widely. Any pedometry system, including ours, can be fooled, however our patent pending motion analytics provides a highly accurate step count.
Why doesn't my ActionTracker register my gym machine activity?
The current version of the ActionTracker is designed to count actual steps. While riding a bike, using an elliptical or similar machine, your heel does not strike the ground as with walking or running. In future releases we will include these and other types of activity.
Nothing happened when I pushed the button on my ActionTracker. What is wrong?
When you push the button while within range of a console, you should immediately see the LED on your ActionTracker turn to solid yellow for a moment and then green for several seconds. If this does not happen, the button has not been pressed hard enough. The button is fairly stiff so that it cannot be pressed accidentally. Place both thumbs over the button and squeeze harder until the LED turns solid green. If the LED turns red after the green, it means the transmission has failed. You should move closer to the console and try again.
I pressed the button and the LED turned yellow then blinked red. Is that bad?
If you successfully press the button on the ActionTracker and the LED turns yellow then blinks red once per second for five seconds, the transfer of data to the console failed. This is either due to too many people trying to connect at one time or that you were not in range of the console. Make sure that you are in range of the console and try again. If this problem continues, please e-mail Support through the website.
How close do I need to be to the console to be within range?
The console has a maximum range of 100 meters line of sight. Certain materials will block the signal and/or reduce the range. This includes ferro-concrete, fire walls, fire doors, brick and elevator shafts. For best results, make sure you can see the console to ensure an unobstructed data transfer.
What do you mean by a yellow LED?
When both the green and red LED are on at the same time, it appears yellow.
Why is the LED on my ActionTracker blinking yellow?
When the ActionTracker has been out of range of a console for more than 24 hours, the blinking green LED will begin blinking yellow. You should bring the ActionTracker within range of a console, as its data capacity is limited to 5 days. Once it has uploaded the data, the LED on the ActionTracker will change back to blinking green.
Why is the LED on my ActionTracker double blinking red?
About twice a year, the ActionTracker will sport a red LED, blinking twice in rapid succession. There is nothing to worry about when this happens, it simply means that the battery is running low. The ActionTracker's battery cannot be changed by the user. Turn in your old ActionTracker to receive a new one. There will be no data loss in this process as your step count is tied with your FitAWare account.
I'm going to be away from work/the console. Will I lose data?
If you are unable to upload your data for more than 5 days, you will lose data. Only the most recent 5 days worth of data is stored.
Can I wear my ActionTracker in the rain?
Yes, the ActionTracker is waterproof. You can wear it in the rain, the shower, even while swimming. In fact, several have gone through washing machines, but they are not heat resistant and the dryer will damage it.
